Subject: The American Legion Candidate Questionnaire

Dear Candidate:

We are currently collection information from candidates running for U.S.
House and Senate in 2002.  The American Legion is part of a 142-member
grassroots coalition of community-based organizations called the Citizens
Flag Alliance (CFA).  The CFA supports a constitutional amendment to protect
the American flag from physical desecration.

The American Legion does not endorse candidates; we are simply trying to
obtain information regarding candidates positions on this issue.  Please
answer the questions on the attached questionnaire.  This information will
then be provided to The American Legion in your state or Congressional
District for dissemination to other members of The American Legion Family.
Any additional statement you wish to make regarding the flag amendment or
any other veterans issue will be disseminated as well.

Please return the attached questionnaire to the address listed on page 2, or
