Response to Citizens for Responsible Government: 2002 Candidate Questionnaire

The following is a
transcription of the original letter received by the campaign from Citizens for
Responsible Government, as well as my response:
Dear W. Lane:
Citizens for Responsible
Government was founded over twenty (20) years ago as a nonpartisan organization
concerned with fiscal, constitutional, and moral matters.
Each election, our
Selection Committee contacts candidates for office for the purpose of
determining which candidates to endorse. The Selection Committee makes
recommendations to the CRG Board of Directors, which in turns selects
candidates for endorsement. The endorsements are published in the local media
prior to the primary and general elections.
Enclosed is a questionnaire
for you to complete and return in the enclosed, self-addressed envelope. Please
circle the appropriate answer, support or oppose. In the interest of a more
complete view of a candidate, we ask that you complete each question to the
best of your ability. If your answer on a question needs clarification, or is
conditional, please respond on another paper, making reference to the question
number.
After the questionnaires
are received and evaluated, we will contact you for a personal interview. A
prompt response and return of the questionnaire is necessary (deadline is
Monday, June 10th). We will be conducting interviews June 19th
through June 27th in the afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
